Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center offers an ACGME approved comprehensive one-year fellowship in Vascular Neurology. This one-year program provides comprehensive training in the inpatient and outpatient management of cerebrovascular disorders under the supervision of an internationally renowned faculty. Fellows will have the option to choose from one of two tracks. Our academic track involves training at VCU Medical Center in Downtown Richmond. We are a comprehensive stroke center with an average of 1000 stroke patients a year. We have amongst the highest rates and fastest times of IV tPA administration as well as stroke intervention. Our community track offers training in collaboration with Winchester Medical Center located in Winchester, Virginia. WMC is a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center. This is a unique setting to train in community stroke, neuroimaging and endovascular surgical neuroradiology.
Training in stroke neuroimaging, neurocritical care, acute stroke evaluation and assessment for stroke intervention, and outpatient Stroke Prevention Clinic are the strengths of our program. In addition, there are ample opportunities for clinical research and participation in ongoing clinical trials. Completion of the Vascular Neurology fellowship prepares the candidate for an academic career. Courses in research methodology for those interested can be incorporated into the curriculum.
