Dr. Chen, Assistant Professor in Neuro-Oncology receives grant from VCU Presidential Research Quest Fund

A breif description on the grant that was proposed:

As more and more cancers become manageable chronic disease, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) has been not only the quality of life concern in cancer survivors, but also often resulting in chemotherapy dose reduction and early discontinuation.  Based on the preclinical studies done at VCU pharmacology department which shows nicotine administration to chemotherapy-treated mice significantly reduced chemotherapy-induced allodynia, we propose a clinical study to test using over the counter available nicotine patch could be an effective treatment for CIPN in humans.
