Pediatric neurology and neurosurgery at VCU ranked #33 in the country in the latest edition of U.S. News and World Report for Best Children’s Hospitals, which marks a significant milestone for the University’s Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery and demonstrates their dedication to excellence in diagnosing and treating children with neurological disorders.
Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks hospitals and medical centers based on several factors, including patient outcomes, clinical expertise, advanced technologies, and reputation among pediatric specialists. This year U.S. News & World Report ranked the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals in eight specialties— the most since the Best Children’s Hospital rankings were established 17 years ago.
Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery consist of a team of highly skilled physicians, surgeons, nurses, and support staff who work collaboratively to deliver personalized and comprehensive care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our youngest patients.
Lawrence D. Morton, MD, Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology, expressed his gratitude for the department's recognition. “Good teams do not happen by accident, but rather a coming together of people unified by the common goal of the care of children. It is humbling that our efforts have been recognized by colleagues nationally for this honor,” he said.
Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery specialize in treating a wide range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions affecting children, including epilepsy, brain tumors, congenital anomalies, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neuromuscular diseases. In addition to the clinical expertise, they are committed to advancing knowledge and finding innovative solutions to improve the lives of children with neurological disorders. Their contributions to medical research and the training of future pediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons have also been widely recognized.
