The VCU Department of Neurology welcomes Karen J. Sharrock, MBA, as an associate administrator. Karen joined the department on October 31, most recently from George Mason University where she served as the associate administrative director for Student Health Services.
As the associate administrative director at George Mason University, Karen was the liaison for the department with institutional leaders and was responsible for managing operations and management, budgetary development and implementation, personnel management, and daily clinical operational logistics which consists of over 50 employees, four clinic locations, and a $10M budget.
In her new role as associate administrator, Karen will work closely and in collaboration with department leadership and Sharon Ancheta-Hecht, Associate Administrator, on fiscal reporting and management, administration, and human resources management.
Previously, Karen served as the Administrative Director, Graduate Medical Education for Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where she provided operational administrative leadership for developing graduate and undergraduate medical education (UME) programming and fiscal responsibilities.
Additionally, Karen brings a wealth of knowledge in medical education program operations, accreditation, credentials, and fiscal management, having worked as a senior residency program administrator at York Hospital in York, PA and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA.
Karen received both a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master of Business Administration, in Healthcare Management from Western Governor’s University in Salt Lake City, Utah.
