The VCU Department of Neurology welcomes Stephanie L. Bissonnette, DO, MPH as an Assistant Professor in the Movement Disorders Division. Dr. Bissonnette will serve as the Associate Vice Chair for Diversity Equity and Inclusion as well as an Associate Program Director for the Adult Neurology Residency Program and Associate Clerkship director.
Dr. Bissonnette was most recently Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Boston University School of Medicine, where she was the Associate Program Director for the adult neurology residency. While working at Boston Medical Center, Dr. Bissonnette became passionate about understanding and addressing healthcare disparities among patients with neurological disorders. She established a qualitative research program that investigated the medical experiences of historically underrepresented patients and established a community outreach effort focused on education and partnership. In her role as associate vice-chair of DEI for the Department of Neurology, she hopes to use this experience to inform departmental initiatives and collaborations.
Dr. Bissonnette has a degree in Public Health from the Boston University School of Public Health and a degree in Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine.
